With compassion and humor, this Tony Award-winning play explores the volatile relationship between Annie Sullivan and her headstrong student, Helen Keller, who lost her sight and hearing at the age of 19 months.
Auditions will be in the form of a cold reading of the script. A pdf copy fo the script can be emailed to you by contacting us at treasurecoasttheatre@gmail.com
Please dress comfortably and wear comfortable shoes. (No sandals, flip flops, or bare feet). An audition form is required to be filled out upon arrival.
A resume and headshot are optional but appreciated.

Rehearsals will be Monday through Thursday starting with a read-through on Wednesday, August 20th. Most rehearsals will be from 6:30-9:30, however times are TBD. Not all characters will be required to be at every rehearsal. Children must be accompanied by a parent.
LEADING ROLES
Annie Sullivan - Female, 20s-early 40s
Irish Accent. A graduate of the Perkins Institute for the Blind who is sent to Alabama as Helen Keller's teacher.
Helen Keller - Female, 7-12
A young girl who has been left blind and deaf by a childhood illness. She learns to communicate with Annie's help. Very physical role. No lines but very vocal. This role may be double cast due to the nature of the physical demand of the character.
Captain Arthur Keller - Male, 50s-early 60s
Refined Southern Accent. Helen's father. He initially resists Annie's teaching methods. Very strong authoritative character with overpowering voice.
Kate Keller - Female, 30s-early 40s
Refined Southern Accent. Helen's mother. She convinces her husband to let Annie continue teaching Helen. Compassionate in nature.
James Keller - Male, 20s-early 30s
Captain Arthur Keller's son from a previous marriage. He struggles to stand up to his father

SUPPORTING ROLES:
Aunt Ev -Female, 50s-60s
Captain Keller’s sister. She is a traditional Southern woman with a strong sense of family legacy and propriety.
Mr. Anagnos/Doctor - Male, 50s-70s
Anagnos is both a mentor and a stern figure in Annie's life. Double cast as the Doctor in the opening scene.
Viney - Female, 20s-60s, Preferbly African American
Keller family’s caretaker responsible for the daily running of the home.
Martha and Percy, Male and Female, 6-12, Preferbly African American
Children who live near the Kellers.
