Part three of Neil Simon's autobiographical trilogy finds Eugene Jerome and his older brother Stanley trying to break into the world of show business as professional comedy writers while coping with the breakup and eventual divorce or their parents. When their material is broadcast on the radio for the first time, the family is upset to hear a thinly-veiled portrait of themselves played for laughs.

Eugene Jerome- Lead; Age: Mid to late 20s
Eugene and his brother Stanley still live at home with their parents and their maternal grandfather, but they are trying to break into the world of show business. Eugene is Neil Simon's alter ego
Stanley Jerome - Supporting; Age: Late 20s/early 30s
Eugene's older brother and writing partner.
Ben Epstein - Supporting; Age: mid 70s/early 80s
Maternal grandfather to Eugene and Stanley. He lives with the Jerome family while his wife is in Florida.
Jack Jerome- Supporting; Age: mid to late 50s
Father to Eugene and Stanley. He and his wife Kate are having trouble in their marriage.
Blanche Morton- Supporting: Age:mid to late 40s
Kate's younger sister and Ben's daughter. She married well and lives on Park Avenue in NYC.
