THE PROPRIETOR (M/F, any age)
An enigmatic figure who runs the shooting gallery at a carnival. Sells weapons to the assassins at the beginning of the show and is a constant presence throughout. The ringmaster of this freak-show. Vocal Range: Gb2-F4 (male) or Gb3-F5 (female)
JOHN WILKES BOOTH (M, 27)
Assassinated President Abraham Lincoln during a performance at Ford's Theater in Washington D.C. on April 14, 1865. Foreman and inspirational celebrity to the other assassins. (Vocal Range: F2-G4)
CHARLES GUITEAU (M, 40)
Assassinated President James Garfield in the waiting room of the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station, Washington, D.C., on July 2, 1881. Dashing but mad. (Vocal Range: A2-Ab4)
LEON CZOLGOSZ (M, 28)
Assassinated President William McKinley at the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo, N.Y. on September 6, 1901. A young poverty-worn radical. (Vocal Range: C#2-G4)
SARA JANE MOORE (F, 45)
Attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, CA, on September 22, 1975. A frazzled housewife with little sense. (Vocal Range: F3-Eb5)
LYNETTE “SQUEAKY” FROMME (F, 26)
Attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford at the Capitol Park in Sacramento, CA on September 5, 1975. A pixie hippie in love with Charles Manson. (Vocal Range: A3-G5)
JOHN HINCKLEY (M, 25)
Attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan as he left the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C. on March 30, 1981. A love-obsessed and depressed college student. (Vocal Range: A2-G4)
GIUSEPPE ZANGARA (M, 32) Attempted to assassinate President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt as he greeted well-wishers in Bayfront Park, Miami, FL on February 15, 1933. An angry, heavily-accented immigrant. (Vocal Range: B2-A4)
SAMUEL BYCK (M, 44)
Attempted to assassinate President Richard Nixon by hijacking a commercial jetliner. Hysterically irate schlep in a Santa Claus suit. (Vocal Range: D3-G4)
ENSEMBLE (M/F, all ages)
to portray various historical figures and bystanders, including Moore’s son Billy, President James Garfield, President Gerald Ford, anarchist Emma Goldman, conspirator David Herold, and others.

Preparation:
Please prepare a one-minute contemporary monologue and 16-32 bars of a song in the style of the show. Please bring a backing track, as an accompanist will not be provided.
